Love At First Sight' gives a modern twist to the classic hybrid tea roses. It is shorter in stature and produces more rounded flowers. The rounded buds grow into a less pointed bloom than the traditional varieties. Flowers are red on the front and pale on the reverse. The contrast is quite striking! These are perfect for small gardens or patio planters and the flowers will elevate your fresh bouquets!

Romence Gardens roses are sold and shipped potted and growing in a 10 inch diameter pot. Due to the size of the box requried to ship them they must be shipped individually and do not qualify for flat rate shipping. PLANTING:

Grow roses in an open site in full sun (at least 6 hours) for best health and flowering; some afternoon shade may be tolerated in hot Southern climates. Plant in humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil of moderate fertility. Amend soil with compost and/or Canadian peat moss and mix into the bed before planting. Space well apart from other plants for best sun exposure and air circulation; avoid planting in the root zone of large trees or shrubs. In northern climates, the graft union on grafted roses (the knobby part of the trunk, below the branches) should be 2-3" under the surface of the soil; in warm climates, it should be right at the soil line. Mulch with 2-3" of shredded bark or leaves, or wood chips.

MAINTENANCE:

Water deeply on a regular basis to keep moist, but avoid spraying water on the leaves. After the first year, apply a balanced granular fertilizer annually in spring when new growth is 4-6" long. Apply liquid fertilizer every 3 weeks from spring through summer, beginning with a half-strength dilution, and then increasing to full-strength as the season progresses; taper off feeding by the end of summer.

OVERWINTERING:

In autumn, clean up any fallen rose leaves to prevent overwintering diseases, cover the crown of the plant with a pile of mulch or shredded leaves to a depth of 12 - 18"; delay pruning until spring. This is preferable to cutting back in the fall and covering with syrofoam rose cones or buckets, and will result in fewer cultural and disease problems.

PRUNING HYBRID TEAS AND GRANDIFLORAS:

In spring, as temperatures rise above freezing, gradually remove the excess mulch and prune canes back to 12" in northern climates, or 18" in the South, cutting just above an outward facing bud. Thin out all but 4-6 well-spaced, green canes of finger-width, removing any dead wood, thin, weak sprouts, and old, woody stems. This will result in vigorous new growth each year that will bloom heavily all summer. Deadhead spent blooms throughout the season as needed to encourage continued bud production.
